Computer Aided Translation

Faster, better, cheaper
If you often need new versions of existing documents translated, users manuals and the like, and legal texts or advertising pamphlets as well, then CAT is the solution for you. It works faster, guarantees better results and makes large savings possible.

At present, there are many CAT systems on the market. AVANTI works with the two market leaders - Trados and Transit. Both systems can be directly applied to your translation.
Without investment. Without obligation. Without preparation. CAT offers advantages directly.

CAT is suitable for:
– Manuals, instructions for use, technical descriptions,
  technical specifications etc.
– Legal documents, such as summonses, company articles,
results of a company search at the Chamber of Commerce,
  contracts etc.
– Financial overviews, profit and loss accounts, balances etc.
– Advertising folders for similar products, corporate
descriptions that are revised annually etc.

CAT is not suitable for:
– Very short texts
– Texts that require full re-writing each time

Your advantages:

– Quicker
Computers are quicker than people. Only a few seconds are needed to find the previously translated segments and (if so desired) to incorporate them into the text. Processing of a long document can therefore be considerably shortened: so you have the translation in your hands that much sooner.

– Better
Once you or your importer abroad have approved a translation, errors can no longer occur in repeated segments. Thanks to the "on-line dictionary" function, terminological consistency is assured at all times.

– Cheaper
You’ll never pay twice for the same translation. What has once been translated can be used over and over again (free). Until you decide you want it otherwise. In addition, you only need to check repetitions once. That makes a difference in time, and therefore money for you.

– Easier
CAT-systems work directly in your source document. So the lay-out is retained in full, with all tables, illustrations, columns etc. No longer will you receive just a text which you then have to import into your document!

– Safe
The computer can do nothing of its own accord. All "automatic" translations have to be confirmed by the translator. This all happens very quickly, while offering an important safeguard against unwanted misunderstandings. It can be absolutely necessary to place the sentence to be translated in its context. How would you translate this? "The peasants are revolting..."

What it costs:
In principle CAT costs hardly any more in relation to conventional translations, while it offers the possibility of bringing about substantial savings. The price for translating new segments of a document is the same as our normal price per word. In principle, you pay nothing for the segments that are automatically "called up" by the computer.

We charge 65.00 EURO start-up costs for each CAT session and an hourly rate - based on 5000 words per hour - for checking the automatically translated segments. Of course, this also includes any repetitions within the same document. Does your slogan appear on every page? You only pay once. The rest is free.

How it works for you:
The principles of CAT really are simple. Every time a sentence is repeated in your texts, the computer saves it along with the translation. If the same sentence comes along later in the text (or in another document), the computer will recognise it and automatically retrieve the saved sentence. No need to be afraid then: the computer doesn’t do any of the translating. It re-uses only sentences already translated by human hand (or rather, by an experienced professional)

In addition, Trados and Transit both have "on-line dictionary" functions: that is, an auxiliary database, filled with your preferred terminology. In the case of new sentences that have never been translated before (and can therefore not be found in the main database), the auxiliary program displays the "difficult terms". The translator can thankfully make use of these in translating new segments of text.

If you so wish, with a small investment your previously translated texts can be analysed and directly incorporated into CAT. In this way, you can profit from all the translations you have had translated in the past!
